Safflower seeds are the seeds of the annual safflower plant, Carthamus tinctorius.
Look like mini sunflower seeds although they are from a more thistle like plant. Often added to seed mixes they are taken individually by many species. High in Fats and Oils. Sometimes garden birds take a while to acclimatised to them but they soon become a favourite. One advantage is that squirrels tend not to like them because of their bitter taste.
Loved by but not limited to the following:
Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Long-tailed, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, House Sparrow, Dunnock , Robins , Collared Dove, Wood Pigeon.
Can be: Feeder, Table or Ground Feed.
